"The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new. " | Socrates
One of the best most challenging journeys you'll ever go on is seeing what your body can do. Perhaps you are in shape, wholly out of shape, or simply hoping to lose some weight. However, developing a body you can be proud, one that's healthy, and lets you truly adore every possible last piece of it truly is a dazzling journey to undertake.
So what is the key to making a lasting change with your body?
Consistency and commitment.
There's nothing else like coming to the table each day and giving it your best shot. Your best effort must be yours and yours alone. Don't start comparing your journey to other journeys or else you may become deeply discouraged and deterred. Instead, really try and understand you're competing with yourself and yourself alone. Will there be times on your journey where you try and fail? Yes, many times. But each time you do, you must come back with a commitment to achieving something you've always strongly desire. Consistency will keep you in the game and on the field each and every day. Without it, you'll suffer the the inevitable and bad reality of many new years resolutioners who give up each single year on making the body of their dreams because they lack the personal power to keep on coming back time and again.
Commitment also suggests itself, though not the commitment that you're probably thinking of. In our world, we are fed this strong idea that everything must take place at this time and if it does not actually occur now, it is not worth it at all. Your body is going to really change throughoutthe years, so why don't you try and make a lifelong promise to remaining healthy? Is that an attractive marketable idea? Not really. But is it something that could really change the course of your life? Absolutely.
When you make a pledge to keeping your body healthy throughout your entire life, you will eventually reach whatever goal you wish. It is about seeing the bigger picture than just the few months in front of you till summer. It is about developing something you can be proud of for ever and ever. For me, that concept made my life different as I was able to eventually hit my fitness goals after 12 years of fighting with my body image and food issues. But as soon as I modified my world view of what I was trying to attain, everything I had wished for came to me. So try it on for size and see if it works for you. Make a lifetime dedication to keeping healthy and watch how much your body will change in the short term as well.
Bring some commitment and consistency to the table, in all facets of your life, and things will change significantly.
