Top Target Areas For Botox

By Anka Sanori

There are many cosmetic reasons for which Botox injections are widely used. In the last few years there has been a significant increase in its use with more and more people seeking to change the way they look and shave off years with this simple and quick treatment. Its popularity is primarily due to the speed of the procedure, the simplicity of the whole process, the quality results and how affordable it generally is.

Fine lines and wrinkles on the face are a common treatment area for botox; it relaxes the muscles and skin when it is applied. There are three main sites that are most commonly injected:

- Forehead wrinkles

- Crow's feet lines around the eyes

- Vertical '11' lines between eyebrows

Forehead wrinkles

These 'frown lines' are one of the most common sites for botox injection. The skin and muscles on the forehead are constantly being used and as a result are always under stress - this is why frown lines and wrinkles form here so often. As one of the first signs of aging, it is targeted first. Most troublesome for patients, amongst all facial creases, seem to be the forehead lines. Treatment is simple, quick and effective and requires no anaesthesia. Effects can last up to 6 months and repeat injections are usually required to preserve the crease-free look.

Crow's feet lines around the eyes

Crow's feet refer to fine lines that form at the corners of the eyes due to constant muscle use. As a sign of aging, it is unfortunate yet unavoidable. Botox injections can effectively reduce these lines without giving the skin a stretched appearance, restoring the look that younger, healthier skin appears like. Crow's feet are very common, so they are the next popular treatment after frown lines. Just like other botox treatments, the results can take effect for up to 6 months, and additional treatments may be required after that.

Vertical '11' lines

These refer to the two lines between the eyebrows that form when frowning. The depth of these lines can be reduced with Botox injections, and effectively smoothed out. The procedure takes around 10 to 15 minutes to perform and the results are excellent.

Botox is most often injected on the face into these top 3 sites. Botox injections around the mouth may be performed, and there are other sites like chin lifts, although these are much less common.

Conclusion

When it comes to achieving great cosmetic results that will result in younger looking skin devoid of fine lines and wrinkles, Botox still remains one of the most preferred treatments.

Botox As A Migraine Treatment

By Cali Marinaw

The use of botulinum toxin injections has advanced tremendously over the last few years. Applications in cosmetic surgery and muscle spasticity disorder are now well recognized and are offered at a number of different centers all over the world. In the recent past, its use has now been extended to treating migraines.

Below, we will be going over how botox treatments have been used as of late to for this reason.

Background behind this idea

Paralyzation occurs in the muscles due to botox injections, and because of this, the muscles stay in a relaxed position as they don't receive the nerve signals. Clostridium botulinum is a bacterium contained in these injections, and that is the cause of the effect. The main usage is for muscles different parts of the eyes, face and body to be relaxed, which will increase muscle tone and make the general muscle function be improved.

Botox in migraine

Migraine is primarily mediated by the release of the neuro-chemical serotonin. Treatments of botox do not affect that, but there is evidence that shows patients who find relief from migraine pain from the treatments.

This is still being researched and the reasons for the correlation are not clear at this time, but people are still pleased with the results they receive for their migraine issues. Botox has been suggested to be injected at 31 to 39 different points in the scalp. The most common theories that have been put forth:

First, that it blocks the nerves from transmitting pain signals.

Next, that it relaxes the scalp muscles and may help reduce blood pressure within the brain

The research is still preliminary, but at this point, it seems that patients are finding that their headaches are less painful and frequent, and they are happier in general.

When a patient reports migraine headaches that happen for over 15 days a month, and do not receive relief from other types of treatment are sometimes recommended to have botox injections. A condition called 'analgesic overuse headache', which is headache due to overuse of painkillers, also needs to be ruled out.

If they treatments make it so that less than 15 days a month are headache free, or if they have at least 2 cycles of botox without seeing any relief, then this may not be the right treatment for that particular patient.

What risks are there?

It's possible to have an allergic reaction or some neck pain from botox treatment, but that only happens to a tiny percentage of patients.

Summary

Migraines are now being treated by injections of botox, but it's still a new application for this condition. Botox treatments for chronic migraine look like they are effective, but at this time, further study needs to be concluded in order for these claims to be verified.

Why People Think Botox Is Worth The Money

By Marla Nordina

We all know how important physical first impressions are in today's superficial society. We all wish to look younger than we are, and are willing to go to great lengths to regain our youth. In order to deal with wrinkles and other lines that people inevitably have appear on their faces as they age, people are seeking out botox injections to make their skin look younger.

Years ago, the only option was to have plastic surgery, and this is a much more invasive procedure, but many people went through with it anyway. Procedures would take hours to perform and weeks to heal. The positive effects can take even more time, possibly months. Procedures like this are no longer the only option, because of the use of botox treatments. Recent studies in 2012 show that less invasive treatments such as botox injections are increasing, and more invasive plastic surgery is being chosen less often, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

The reason?

Plastic surgery is much more expensive, so botox gives someone with a lower economic status the ability to get treatments. For many reasons, botox is becoming more mainstream, but one of the biggest reasons is that it's much faster, safer, and cheaper than having a plastic surgery, which is way more invasive.

People who are in the higher social class are obviously more likely to have botox treatments, and this is helping to fuel a wider acceptance for the procedure. Media loves to print stories about famous people who appear to have had botox treatments.

How did botox get to be so mainstream?

It's safe to say that botox treatments are a huge part of modern cosmetic surgery clinics. The effective results on wrinkles and lines, coupled with the great speed and ease of the treatments as it's an out-patient procedure makes this a popular choice among patients. Not only do people use these treatments for aesthetic reasons, they are also being used to help blepharospasm, spastic paraplegias, and other kinds of muscle spasms.

Benefits from these kinds of treatments are noticeable for months down the line. Many people's confidence is boosted significantly by having these treatments, and they usually tell family and friends to have it done as well.

Because of such great results from botox injection treatments, many people are having the procedure done and they are gaining confidence and feeling younger because of the wider degree of acceptance.

Botox Trends

By Ariel Mernal

The public is well aware that having botox treatments is a simple and easy solution to make the skin appear younger. Wrinkles and fine lines in the face become quite a big concern for ageing people, so many of them are utilizing the latest advances in cosmetic treatments, and that means getting botox injections. There was a time when people may have thought that botox was a trend that would disappear, but people now realize that it is not going anywhere.

There are sections in newspapers and magazines and segments on television that are dedicated to celebrities that have had botox in order to make their skin look more youthful. A lot of people are wondering why this has become so increasingly mainstream in recent years.

It's actually pretty easy to understand why. People realize that botox is low-cost, and works well to make the skin look younger. It's a fast treatment, there are no scars which can happen from plastic surgery, and it is pretty easy on the bank account. Celebrities have made botox a household name, and because of this, many more people are now choosing to undergo these treatments.

Do Men get Botox?

It's a mistake for people to think that the only people out there getting botox treatments are women. The truth is to the contrary. Granted that majority of the people who undergo botox injections are women, these days' even men are undergoing these procedures. Media outlets have come up with a term for this, and 'bro-tox' seems to fit the bill. It's even about 50/50 men and women in certain clinics that administer botox treatments.

The trends are always evolving

Botox is becoming more popular all the time. It is estimated that the number of men and women who underwent botox injection rose from 2010 to 2011 by around 5% - that's a rise from 5.4 million to 5.7 million people. Newer estimates suggest an annual rise of around 10% every year. This is not a shock to anyone. The previously attached 'stigma' and social attitude to botox injections being the treatment reserved for the wealthy no longer exists, and neither does any sense of any shame of undergoing the procedure. It has now become a well recognized and widely accepted surgical procedure.

There is more than this though. Botox's applications have advanced from just cosmetic use to management of a variety of clinical conditions that cause muscle spasticity. Some of these conditions include blepharospasm, spastic paraparesis and cerebral palsy in both children and adults. There have been multiple reports of these treatments showing significant benefits for patients. Other applications include managing patients with migraine (multiple botox injections are given to the scalp) and excessive sweating.

We can all speculate with certainty that botox is only going to rise in acceptance in time. There are always new studies being done and improvements being made, and the benefits of these treatments seem to be growing in number all the time.
